Mining Engineering

Mining and Materials

Mining science and related industries in Iran have a long history. The existence of a variety of abandoned metal and nonmetallic mines in ancient Iran and after Islam, some of them dating to several thousand years before Islam, is a clear testimony to this. By 322 AH, the process of exploration and mining was continued in traditional and sometimes non-principled ways that damaged the mines and led to their abandonment. But since the early Qajar dynasty (1779 AD), exploration and exploitation operations have taken on a different form. With the commencement of the Supreme Leader, Mirza Taghi Khan, Amir Kabir (in 1848), an in-depth and all-encompassing activity was conducted for the exploration and prospecting of mines. In general, during this period, there were significant improvements and improvements in mining activities, and a great deal of development was achieved by the arrival of foreign engineers for the science of mining engineering. Education was conducted in 1851, after the establishment of the Darulfonon, at which time there were 5 students in the field of mine engineering from 114 students. In 1313 Hijri, with the establishment of the University of Tehran by Professor Hesabi, four fields of mining engineering, road engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, started which students of these disciplines after five years of continuous education, awarded a master's degree in engineering.

Introduction of the Faculty

This university and faculty is one of the great collections of higher education in mining engineering and aims to train experts to employ various exploratory techniques to explore the anomalies, determine the type and form of mass and deposit, calculate the reserve, evaluate economic, and study the issues of extraction and Ore mineral. This course combines general courses, basic sciences, engineering techniques, and specialized mining engineering courses.

At the time of admission, you have to take the university seriously and take the first semester boldly to have a strong academic base in your field of study and provide you with a decent career opportunity after graduation. Note that proper and complete understanding of course content as well as increased confidence and spiritual upgrading in other terms will require your full and deep understanding of the content of the lessons provided in the first semester. So, given the importance of the first thirteenth grades in your ultimate success, you will try to share the challenges and obstacles with professors and experts and use their advice on finding the right path and making up for failures.

Introduction to the field

Mining engineering can be one of the few engineering sciences that have many units and engineering trends and basic science units. A mining engineer should have a mapper, familiar with the environment and satellite data, and have the ability to work with a GPS device and chemical analysis devices. Mining engineering has a very close connection with engineering, geological engineering, oil exploration engineering, environmental engineering and natural resources, materials engineering (metallurgy), civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering and industrial engineering.

Fields of activity of a mining engineer:

The scope of a mine engineer's work is not limited to the mineral environment. In addition to being a member of the mining engineering system and taking technical responsibility for mines, mine engineers can operate in a wide range of areas, such as the implementation of drainage projects, design and implementation of underground spaces such as tunnels, subways and water pipelines, design and implementation of drilling Surface such as mountain roads, geotechnical exploration, oil and gas industries, and organizations such as the Ministry of Industry, Mining and Commerce, the Ministry of Oil for exploration and drilling, the Ministry of Energy in the field of water, the Ministry of Road and Transportation, the organization Space Agency, Atomic Energy Organization in the field of uranium exploration and so on… Because mining engineers have a great deal of geological and geoscientific backgrounds, they can also carry out extensive activities in executive and civilian work.

Advice for mine engineering students:

The most important thing to succeed in this field is to have an interest in nature and the ability to deal with issues and problems. Because exploration is such that sometimes it takes place in a completely remote environment. Therefore, one has to take a person in a position to adapt to nature and beauty and endure unwanted hardship. The next thing is patience and a tireless spirit in this work, which without them one cannot succeed in this work.

A mining engineering student finds a completely different view of the earth and this planet after stepping in this field. He no longer looks at the mountains and stone just like all humans, but he looks at them with a deep view. Because he knows what valuable resources lie in the heart of a simple rock, he knows that within the rock is a world in which their crystalline networks are aligned with precise order and power.

The length of the study period and the number of mine engineering courses in the new system:

The course duration is 4 years and its courses are planned for 8 semesters. The first six semesters are devoted to common mining engineering courses (exploration, mining, rock mechanics, and process orientation), and during the last two semesters of the specialized course the chosen field is planned for each input. 68% of theoretical training, practical and specialized activities will account for 32% of the total time.
